GUWAHATI - NAMERI NATIONAL PARK - KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK - MAJULI ISLAND - JORHAT - CHARAIDEO & SIVASAGAR - DIBRUGARH

​DAY 1 : ARRIVE IN GUWAHATI

​​

Arrive at Guwahati airport. Meet and greet with our representative and transfer to your hotel. On arrival, check into your hotel. Overnight stay.

​

DAY 2 : GUWAHATI - GARBHANGA RESERVE FOREST - NAMERI NATIONAL PARK (250 km / 6 hrs)

​

.Early morning go to Garbhanga Reserve Forest. Later we start our drive to Nameri National Park. On the way, we shall explore the historical city of Tezpur and visit the Agnigarh, Cole Park & the Remnants of 6th century Da-Parbatia temple with its exquisitely carved portal. On arrival check-in at the hotel. Overnight stay.

​DAY 3 : DAY TRIP TO NAMERI NATIONAL PARK

 

Early morning, drive to Nameri National Park to trek inside the national park. Packed breakfast will be served on this day. Explore the park on foot, spending most of your time in the forest spotting as many birds as you can. Here you will be accompanied by locally trained naturalist and armed Forest Guard. Later return to the starting point and drive 25 km upstream and raft down the Jia Bhorelli River. You will be assisted by expert boatman along with the life jackets and other essentials. Return to the hotel and overnight stay.

 

Nameri is a scenic national park situated at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas on the Assam-Arunachal border. It touches the Pakke Tiger reserve in the south-east boundary. The park has a great variety of mammals like elephants, tigers, Indian gaur, 4 species of deer, capped langur etc. This park is also known for its birdlife. Nameri is the home of the elusive and endangered white-winged wood duck, Ibis bill, Pied Kingfisher and Great Indian Hornbill. Among the other parks, Nameri has the highest number of this species in the world along with more than 350 species of birds. The advantage of this wonderful park is that visitors have to do explore the park on foot, as there is no jeep able roads there. Rafting is another option where expert boatmen will steer your rafts while you are free to look for the aquatic birds.

​DAY 4 : NAMERI NATIONAL PARK - KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK (100 km/ 2 hrs)

 

After breakfast, start your drive to Jorhat, check-in at the hotel. Afternoon go for a jeep safari inside the park. Return to hotel by dusk and overnight stay.

​DAY 5 : KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK

 

After breakfast go for a jeep safari inside the park. Post lunch you can go for a leisurely walk for about 3 km in a nearby village, inhabited by Karbi community. This provides an insight into the Assamese village lifestyle. Return to the hotel and overnight stay.

 

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​DAY 6 : KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK - MAJULI ISLAND (2.5 hrs Drive + 1 hr Ferry)

​

After breakfast with respective ferry timings, we will proceed towards Majuli Island. Enroute visit the Kaziranga Orchid & Bio Diversity Park. It has an Orchidarium where you can witness varieties of orchids and other plant species with medicinal value. This park also has an in-house museum displaying art, handicraft items and local musical instruments that represent the culture and heritage of the region. There is also a cultural arena that hosts dance performances of different ethnic communities of Assam. Continue your drive to Neamati Ghat and take a ferry to reach the Majuli Island. On arrival check-in at the hotel. Time permitting, go for a nearby village visit. Overnight Stay.

​DAY 7 : MAJULI ISLAND 

 

After breakfast, go and visit the Kamalabari Satra and enjoy a monastic dance performance by the monks of the satras. The great 15th-century Assamese reformer and saint, Sankardeva had set up ‘Satras’ or Vaishnavite monasteries to make the people motivated towards culture and religion.

 

Then we shall also visit the Auniati Satra, founded in the middle of the 17th century and the first one that was patronized by the Ahom kings. The satra also has an in-house museum that has a collection of well-preserved ancient manuscripts and artifacts dating back to the period of the Ahom dynasty and related to neo-Vaishnavism.

 

We will also visit Samaguri Satra (Vaishnavite Monastery) known for its ancient mask making tradition, which they wear during performing ‘Bhaona’ – a traditional form of dance drama, based on various Hindu mythological stories with a religious message. You will have time to interact with the monks so that you gain a thorough knowledge of how they are preserving age-old tradition and imparting it to the new generation. Return to your hotel and overnigh stay.

Majuli Island is the largest inhabited river island in the world and is a microcosm of Assamese culture. Majuli represents the rural idyll in Assam. A stronghold of the peaceful religion of neo-Vaishnavism, this elegant island is a home of several ‘Satras’ (Vaishnavite Monasteries). The great 15th-century Assamese reformer and saint, Sankardeva had set up these ‘Satras’ to make the people motivated towards culture and religion. This satras showcase a unique way of life where the faithful live simply, offering worship through gayan-bayan (songs and musical instruments) and readings.

Note:

- To and Fro Majuli Island, Govt. Maintained shared/commercial ferries operate at definitive timings.

- Kindly be aware that the villagers are engaged in their daily lives and sometimes some visits may differ based on that. The villagers may not be seen in their traditional dresses which are normally worn on special occasions only.

​DAY 8 : MAJULI ISLAND - JORHAT  (1 hr Ferry + 1 hr Drive)

​

After breakfast with respective ferry timings, we shall reach the mainland and drive to Jorhat. On arrival check-in at the hotel. Later you can go to visit the Shyamgaon, a nearby village and also a local winery. Return to hotel and overnight stay.

 

​DAY 9 : JORHAT - SIVASAGAR & CHARAIDEO - DIBRUGARH (180 km / 5 hrs)

 

After breakfast, we shall leave for Dibrugarh, a city situated on the eastern part of the state of Assam. Enroute, we will explore the historic city of Sivasagar and visit Talatal Ghar, Rang Ghar and Shiva Doul. We shall also visit the Maidams of Charaideo, the burial grounds of Ahom Kings and Queens. On arrival Dibrugarh, check in at the hotel and overnight stay.

Sivasagar was once the capital of the Ahom Kings, known as ‘Shans’ who came from Thailand through Northern Myanmar to this area in the early 13th century, and ruled for 600 years. The ruins of the Ahom palaces and monuments depicts the landscape around this historical town, centuries before the arrival of the British.

 

​DAY 10 : DIBRUGARH - DAY TRIP TO NAMPHAKE VILLAGE & DIGBOI (100 km/ 3 hrs)

 

After breakfast drive to the Namphake village – home of the Tai Phakey community of North East India. A branch of the great Tai race, the Tai Phakeys entered Assam in the latter half of the 18th century. Visit the Buddha Monastery and interact with monks. Later, walk around the village, see and experience the lifestyle of villagers to learn more about the Tai Phakey and their unique ways of life. Later continue your drive to Digboi town and visit the Oil Museum and War Cemetery of World War II. Drive back to Dibrugarh by dusk. Dinner & overnight stay.

​DAY 10 : DEPARTURE FROM DIBRUGARH AIRPORT

 

After breakfast you will be transferred to the Dibrugarh Airport for your onward journey.
